Looking Back: 10 Notable Achievements from Our First Decade

Environmental Impact Bond Pioneer

From the first-ever Environmental Impact Bond with DC Water to the largest EIB with the Buffalo Sewer Authority, QV has laid the groundwork for new ways to pay for nature-based solutions to create more equitable, healthy, and resilient cities.

Baileys Trail System and
Velomont Trail and Vermont Huts

Recognizing the immense potential of recreation to serve as a conservation and economic driver and how time spent outdoors improves physical and mental health, QV’s outdoor recreation outcomes-based financing endeavors have breathed new vitality into many communities.

Family Focused Recovery Program Expansion

This holistic approach to substance use disorder treatment for pregnant and parenting mothers enables families to remain together in a residential setting during the treatment process, increasing the likelihood of positive outcomes. The value-based contracts designed by QV provide Family Focused Recovery programs with predictable revenue that is necessary to deliver results.

Securing the Future of the Maine Woods

QV worked side-by-side with partners to structure and seed a new investment vehicle to align financial incentives with the long-term ecological needs of timberland, wildlife, and local Maine stakeholders. In early 2024, Exemplary Forestry Management acquired its first 3,000-acres of Maine forestland.

Incentivizing the Implementation of
Sustainable Agriculture Practices

QV is a founding partner of the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund, which incentivizes farmers to adopt conservation agriculture practices to improve downstream water quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2023, SWOF enrolled 300,000+ acres of farmland and made $10.5 million in environmental outcome payments to growers.

Health Services Capacity Building with
Community-Based Organizations

Our work supports program and service capacity development across a range of health-related social needs. QV specializes in connecting healthcare organizations and community-based organizations to develop innovative funding models that enable sustainable growth in services and improved health outcomes.

USDA Forest Service Partnership

Through a multi-year partnership with the USDA Forest Service, QV is working with staff at select national forests to advance business, governance, and financing strategies for recreation and land management initiatives. These public-private collaborations improve outdoor recreation infrastructure and spur economic development in and around national forests.

New Impact-Oriented Climate and Health Enterprises

When QV identifies a significant gap in the market for a mission-driven enterprise, we jump at the opportunity to fill it. We are proud to have created Bosland Growth, Dorvie, the Exemplary Forestry Investment Fund, a Health Outcomes Fund, and the Soil and Water Outcomes Fund during our first 10 years.

Place-Based and Regional Initiatives

QV works with forward-thinking communities and organizations to deliver regional clean water, climate mitigation, community health, and resilience solutions (e.g., Colorado River Basin, Great Lakes, Mississippi River watershed, and Texas). QV created SRF Academy and has trained 100+ people to date to help underserved communities access funding to address critical water infrastructure needs.

Building for the Future: 10 Areas of Work to Transform Tomorrow

Expand partnerships among healthcare organizations and community-based organizations to innovatively address health related social needs in more states by sharing what’s working in states like California and North Carolina and by financing more equitable, coordinated, and person-centered care.

Introduce new models for agricultural land conservation, water resource management, and sustainable land conservation in the western United States.

Develop a fund to allow the environmental sector and under-resourced communities to tap into IIJA and IRA funds before they run dry. The fund will work with green banks, community lenders, and CDFIs to provide complementary investment in climate resilience and environmental solutions that will deliver an estimated 6x return on investment.

Expand our outdoor recreation portfolio of work to new areas, bringing innovative funding and partnership strategies to increase equitable access to close-to-home parks.

Position projects to take advantage of emerging nature positive and biodiversity markets to catalyze natural climate solutions with community co-benefits.

Further integrate everything we do with community-driven solutions, community finance, and capacity building to enable for underserved and disenfranchised populations to design and finance their own pathways to a brighter future.

Catalyze further investment in climate by integrating the latest advancements in AI, blockchain, and decision-making technology into climate finance and outcomes analysis for specific climate transactions.

Advance catalytic capital solutions and projects delivering co-benefits at the nexus of health and the environment, recognizing how these two arenas are inexorably connected.
