George S. Hawkins
CEO, Moonshot; former General Manager, DC Water
George S. Hawkins is a seasoned water executive with more than two decades of organizational leadership and environmental law experience who currently serves as CEO of Moonshot, a leadership and innovation-focused consulting platform. He serves as Executive in Residence for XPV Water Partners and on the National Infrastructure and Advisory Council.
Prior to this he was the CEO and General Manager at DC Water for eight years where he led significant and impactful innovations across multiple disciplines including finance, communications and engineering. He has served as the Director of the DC Department of Energy and the Environment, the Executive Director of the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association in New Jersey and held several senior positions within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University and Cum Laude from Harvard Law School and has taught environmental law and policy for the Princeton Environmental Institute since 1999. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for leadership and public service, including Governing Magazine’s Public Official of the Year in 2015 and the US Water Prize in 2016.
